Yes, that’s right folks, it’s finally here.
Edinboro decided to have a Great Commercial Contest, where the students make commercials for Edinboro and then the winner is displayed during the superbowl on NBC (I believe). The finalists get TVs and Cameras, also.

HOORAY!
Well, here’s a shining example of how planned out this contest was (and don’t start thinking that I’m stubborn and I submitted something, because I sure didn’t). The videos on the link on the bottom of this post were posted on that website on a first-come-first-serve basis. That means that one or two people submit something that looks awful RIGHT AWAY. It’s rushed and hideous and a terrible representation of Edinboro. Then Edinboro University puts out an e-mail reminder about the contest and the webpage, so everyone clicks on it, and most likely clicks the “vote” link for those videos.
The contest officially ended yesterday, so people who took it more seriously had allllll the waaaay until yesterday to work on it, as opposed to submitting it a day after it was announced. So commercials are just being submitted now, that have 10 or less votes, while the old stagnant ugly commercials that were immediately made and submitted when the contest was announced are sitting there collecting over 800-900 votes. See the problem here?
They should have all been released on that website on the same time. Easy solution. It’s called planning, Edinboro University. Quit wasting your money on useless things and try planning something out correctly.
Whats more puzzling..
Is that the contest had a “Submission” period (November something til yesterday) and then a “Voting” period (yesterday until the 15th of Jan. I think).. Why? What’s the point of having either of these if you could have voted all this time, during both periods? I think all of the votes need to be immediately reset, and then we could see who really deserves to win this.
Completely, COMPLETELY unfair.

You can say that again! I can’t believe my entry is going to lose to some of the pieces of crap that have been in the top since day one! Ugh!

Totally agree w/ you, Scotty. I thought the contest would be judged by creativity and production quality. Guess EUP has just about zero standards on this.

Tell me which commercial yours is and I’ll advertise for people to vote for it

[...] I find this the most amazing out of all of the videos in submission. As corrupt as the contest is (http://yourboro.wordpress.com/2009/01/03/the-edinboro-great-commercial-contest/) I insist that you all vote for this [...]

The funny thing is that 1/2 of the commercials that made the top 6 were submitted very close to the deadline, but they were so good that they quickly worked their way up the charts. Plus, it didn’t matter how many votes they got as the popular votes only got them into the running to be judged by a panel of judges based on originality and overall appeal.
However some did realize that the sooner they submitted the longer they had opportunity to get votes. Good for them. Everyone had the same opportunity. I thought it was a fun and creative marketing campaign.

‘… the sooner they submitted the longer they had opportunity to get votes.’
I’m not one for politics, but this is probably one of the most illogical voting frameworks I’ve ever witnessed.
It shouldn’t be, “The sooner you submit the more votes you’ll possibly get!”
It makes more sense to have a set voting period compared to a rolling voting period for the fact that the latter is grossly unfair.
Let’s say I submitted a video the day after and it was completely terrible. For the sake of saying, I get tons and tons and tons of votes, and although my commercial is complete crap, I move on to the panel of judges. I don’t win since my commercial is crap, but for someone who spent that submission period working on a better commercial and didn’t make it due to how I got so many votes since mine was up longer is completely inequitable.
The fact that the top six videos were submitted more closely to the deadline is completely irrelevant; it doesn’t change the fact that this ‘voting’ system is completely flawed and utterly inexcusable when you want to deem something fair.
