Not sure if anything else is more important right now than this.

Dr. Frank Taylor, EUP Sociology Chair
Edinboro University professor and chairman of the Sociology department Frank Taylor sustained “very serious injuries” after he wrecked his motorcycle near Morgantown WV, according to a press release from EUP’s Jeff Pinski.
Dean of Liberal Arts Terry Smith released this statement: “Under his leadership, the sociology department has almost tripled its number of majors. He reaches out to students in Meadville and at the Porreco Center in Erie. His department is one of the most energetic departments on the campus.”
If you’ve never had the pleasure of taking a course with Dr. Taylor, here’s a few things you need to know. Taylor is incredibly well read in his field (and other fields for that matter). His classes are stimulating and hilarious. He’s cynical and intimidating. But maybe he is most well-known around campus for being a douche.
Honestly, most people think he is a jerk. He is a middle aged white guy talking about things people aren’t comfortable talking about, and he’s frank about it (his name is Frank, duh). He’s received numerous complaints over the years for being racist, sexist, etc. Oh, and he says “fuck” in class, which made Terry Smith, the same dean that made Taylor out to be a saint in the quote above, very upset. Taylor used to tell us in class about how much he disliked the dean and how the dean tells him what not to do and Taylor would go out of his way to piss the guy off.
Taylor has even been harassed just for being a professor. Supposedly he went to an Edinboro bar once with another professor for lunch, and the bartenders asked if they were professors from the university. The other prof said “Why yes, yes we are!” and they were promptly told to leave. Assholes.
But we here at YB are just concerned for Taylor’ well being, considering the injuries are “very serious”. He’s a good guy, and it would be a huge loss to EUP and quite frankly the world if he were not to make it. We don’t exactly pray here at YB, but he’s definitely in our thoughts.
I’m along time friend of Frank and Kathys. Quite Honestly he is one of my best friends and has been since 1979 when we met. Frank has always been a great guy through good times and bad, he is always brutally honest and you learn to accept that. I very much appreciate the concern for Frank and hope that he pulls through. Thank you for the comments! Keep him in your prays!
Dr. Frank Taylor and family, you are in my thoughts and prayers. Shaina
My thoughts and prayers are with Frank and his family. A miracle would be greatly appreciated right now.
well…this just sucks. Dr. Taylor was awsome….loudmouthed, honest, in your face… often perceived as an ass….even though most of the time it was just to wake people up(I think anyway)… but also fair and willing to have a conversation with you….. and funny as hell.
Frank Taylor was a great man. He never held back and was just a wonderful human being. I am so sad to hear about his accident and know that this will be a huge loss to Edinboro and to sociology.
I honestly would not be where I am without this guy. He will be missed. He taught me a lot. The world is lesser without him.
I had the pleasure of having Dr. Taylor as my Soc. advisor at Dana College in Blair, NE. I can say without a doubt that Frank changed my attitude and allowed me to grow mentally and spiritually.. He opened my eyes to different issues that I would have never explored without his guidance. I will never forget his caring attitude and no nonsense philosophies.
Funny the things you remember about a person. I too had Frank as a professor & advisor at Dana College in Blair, Ne. Until reading these other posts I had long forgotten about his odities! Instead I remember the mentor who turned me on to Bob Seger….thanks Frank! I also remember the man who was voted professor of the year in just his second year as a full time professor at Dana. He was different, did not conform to everyones view of what a professor should be, but most importantly he was able to bring out the best in all of his students. And in my case offered some direction that I will be forever grateful for. Thanks Frank!
I think about Dr. Taylor every time I’m on a bus next to a young mother pulling around three little kids. I think about him when I look at my 5-year-old nephew and can’t stop worrying that he has already been set up by the school system for failure. I think about him when someone uses the term “gender” inappropriately. Because of Dr. Taylor, I’ll only be able to think of Bruce Willis as a pompous jackass. I won’t be able to watch Bulworth, The Village or any political documentary without thinking of him. I knew a long time ago that I wasn’t a fan of war – he showed me why I felt that way. He made me admire people like Dwight Eisenhower and despise people like Dean Smith.
But most importantly, Dr. Taylor taught me that there’s so much greed, hatred and death going on everywhere in the world, but he stressed that you don’t need to spend your life lamenting it. Dedicate your life to being a truly good person. That doesn’t mean following every rule and regulation. Just care about people and help them however you can. Dr. Taylor dedicated his life to studying and helping common people. He deserves the utmost respect and highest honors from everyone lucky enough to have known him.
good god frank why did you have to go
I say the same thing everyday Mark…
Um, Karen I feel bad about your dad. Yes, I am just a youtube geek and I’ve never know this man but maybe I have. In this world we are all really brothers and sisters. We probably all know a “Frank” in our lives. Infact, My father acts very similar to Dr. Taylor or Frank. Karen or spricket24 as shes known on youtube linked me to this site with a video she made. If you wanna see it then go ahead: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGIfDZXTnTA&feature=sub
Thanks for the link, Ziggy- we actually noticed much earlier today when we got a huge surge of traffic from her twitter and youtube.
We’re trying to think of a respectful way to write a story about her- since we dont know much about her. The whole thing is rather interesting, I think
I recommend watching some of her videos actually. I linked you to the video on her account so check it out. And again, I’m sure Mr. Taylor will be missed.

I’ve never met Dr. Taylor, but I can’t get help but think about what P wrote on June 16.
A man concerned about the common people.
I wish I had the honor.
RIP
Iam very very very very happy for your dad
His textbook is awesome. At one point I believe if I remember correctly, he attributed overall murder and crime decreasing due to legalizing abortion. Wow!
This article is offensive and unfair. Why would anyone vilify Dr. Taylor in the picture the way it was done… absolutely disgusting and dehumanizing.
i am not very good at condolences but when i saw karen’s video about her dad and i read what a great person he was, and how people were affected and changed by his work ,it saddened me to realize he is not anymore. i feel truly sorry and sad for karen and her family and i hope that now a year has gone by, they will be much better for it. time is the best healer, but Dr. taylor’s loss as a father, a husband, a teacher, a friend can never be fulfilled. he will always be missed.
