Light ‘em up!

Dear Member of the Edinboro Community:

As a result of a recent Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board (PLRB) ruling, all PASSHE universities will revert back to their pre-September 2008 smoking policies, but with notable exceptions which bring those policies into compliance with the Pennsylvania Clean Indoor Air Act. At Edinboro University this means:

· Smoking is prohibited in all University buildings, outdoor athletic venues, including Sox Harrison Stadium, and outdoor entertainment venues; and

· Smoking will be permitted at all other outdoor areas which are more than 15 feet from university building entrances. Receptacles for discarded smoking materials will be placed at appropriate campus locations.

In our ongoing efforts at being collaborative with various campus constituencies, we will soon establish a group consisting of representatives of various collective bargaining units, the Student Government Association and Edinboro University officials. The result of this group’s deliberations will be policy recommendations best-serving the overall Edinboro University community, smokers and non-smokers, while complying with applicable state law and the recent PLRB ruling.
