We hate to be the ones to tell you guys this. You might want to sit down.

It might not be long before Edinboro University doesn’t have the extra cash to afford fancy sidewalk decor, statewide billboards and M.I.A. Scotsman statues.

In a recent “Education Brief” report from GoErie.com, Jeremy Brown explains that the university’s state funding has shrunk from 62.3% of the total budget in 1985 to about 27% of the university’s current $84 million budget.

“When the stimulus dollars go away, we will see a $2.38 million budget shortfall.” – Dr. Jeremy Brown

Karen Alloy has been putting up with a LOT lately.

If you recall from our post a few days ago she lost her father, Frank Taylor, in June and just found out about it four days ago. Naturally this has to be a traumatizing experience, and one best handled privately.

But, we suppose that’s just not how she is. She’s been toughing it out and documenting her emotions through YouTube.

She recently flew out to Edinboro to stay in the house that Frank Taylor built with a friend- as you can see in the background of her latest video blog:

Looks pretty impressive.

Karen (or “Spricket24″) goes on to proudly display one of Dr. Taylor’s drawings, which was apparently one of his favorite hobbies.

Karen explains that Frank absolutely loved to go sailing. She also emphasizes how smart and joyous the man was. Then she uh…shows us Frank.

Which might weird you out on first impression, but it’s extremely loving. Frank was an organ donor- and through his death he has made five other people’s lives much more worth living.

As long as Karen keeps putting out videos documenting this experience, we’re going to keep watching them. Best of luck to her when she goes to speak about her father at the memorial service.

First off:

• “Black residue” and “pink slime” are the most technical terms health inspectors could come up with for the disgusting goo that the Dinor keeps your food in.

Secondly:

• 9 Other non-critical violations. What the hell is going on there?

Wasn’t the Dinor supposed to be half-decent now that new owners took it over? What is going on here?

Colin Mochrie is a pretty funny guy- but I’m not sure anyone was ever a fan of Brad Sherwood. If only we could have gotten Ryan Stiles to perform with him, instead.

Edinboro student tickets will go on sale Oct. 26, followed by sales to the general public at noon on Oct. 28. Students with valid Edinboro ID cards can purchase tickets for $15; public general admission tickets are $25 and will be available until Nov. 20 at www.edinboroticket.com or at the Edinboro University Student Government Association Convenience Store in the Frank G. Pogue Student Center. After Nov. 20, all tickets will cost $30. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Internet superstar “Spricket24″!

Spricket’s real name is Karen Alloy. You might not know her, but she has a hundred thousand youtube subscribers.

Yeah, yeah. So?

Well, Karen Alloy is related to Edinboro University- in a way.

She is Frank Taylor’s daughter. It’s clear to see, too. Much like Frank, she’s a really nice person, funny, and an incredible speaker! Looks like hundreds of thousands of people have realized this, too!

Well, unfortunately (or fortunately, as Karen explains in this video..), she just found out yesterday about her father passing away several months ago. It’s a very touching video, and we here at YourBoro hope everything turns out OK for her. It’s a very interesting situation, as you’ll find out.

She later says in the video that she’ll be visiting Edinboro soon, and hopefully producing some videos for us to watch. We’ll keep you updated, if you don’t subscribe yourself.

It’s nostalgia time! Inspired by the recent closing of Geocities.com, we reckon it’s time to look at the roots of Edinboro internet history. I think it’s appropriate that we start off this (hopefully) long-running series by pitting two Edinboro bigshot websites against each other

Round 1:

1998:

Edinboro.com comes out swingin’ with completely irrelevant sheet music and ducks in a canoe during round one. For 1998, theres a beautiful use of tables, here. Not to mention an advertisement for muffins. Our first generic trophy clip-art goes to Edinboro.com, beating .edu by flying colors!	You lose. What the hell were you thinking? I guess back in 1998, educational websites still tried to look professional and boring- as opposed to the FUN Edinboro.edu we get today!

1999:

BAM! Whats the first thing you see when you enter Edinboro.com? Damn right, an animated gif. Shit, they’re even giving out BEANIE BABIES! I’m sorry, Edinboro.edu, but you lose double hard because of your complete lack of effort. Thus giving Edinboro.com THREE total trophies, because I feel like it.	Here comes Edinboro.edu, just plain ole not giving a shit. Some fatcat sitting behind his computer must have been chomping down on a cigar shaking his head: “This ‘internet’ thing will NEVER catch on.”

2000/2001:

The always evolving Edinboro.com has now found out how to make a sidebar with tables efficiently. Despite this being the year 2000, there are *gasp* NO FRAMES!!Not only that, but they offer FREE American Flag graphics! Hot damn! Edinboro.com was always ahead of it’s time. Thusly, we give it nine extra trophies.	Edinboro.edu must have sucked SO hard during this time period that archive.org shrugged it off “just fuck it. Who cares anymore.”.It’s their JOB, people.

2002:

Upgraded to a three-column layout, now- Edinboro.com is REALLY ontop of things. From the looks of it, 2002 was it’s heyday and you can go back through their almost daily updates on the archive and see some great news. Plus they even got a new logo. Look at this fucking shit: Awesome. Rock on. You get another trophy for this.	*sigh* Oooh great. Someone in the media department finally found out what “graphics” were when they downloaded Paint Shop Pro 6. Easy on the randomly placed circles, guys. What IS this? Who approved this in the design department?

2003 and 2004 are also not recorded for Edinboro.edu. I can sum it up for you, though: Edinboro.edu continued to look like garbage until this year. When it looked like garbage even more, and is extremely hard to navigate. Not that it matters- students only goto blackboard or SCOTS, and half of them have to use the searchbar in the top right corner. The two (or three counting webmail) things that students most frequently use are HIDDEN in this website, through multiple pages. Way to go Edinboro University. If you had ANY clipart trophies, they would be taken away because of this alone.

Edinboro.com was eventually sold (or something, the owner talked about it in a comment here a few weeks back) and moved to http://www.edinboroweb.com/. It’s obviously not the same anymore, which is a bit sad. But regardless, they get the win here.

YourBoro’s SPOOKY Edinboro DAY ONE!

What if I told you that there was a massive abandoned building less than a mile away from Edinboro? The insides are covered with graffiti of it’s past patrons who have already had their souls sucked out by this asylum. Even when operational, spiderwebs dominated every crevice and the people lurking about it walked around in a catatonic state as if just existing there kills them every minute..

Yes, seriously, Bert.

It exists.

It’s empty and it lurks over Edinboro in the distance every single day.

In fact, it TOWERS over Edinboro every day.

Lawrence Towers B

The one on the left...

As of last year (I think it was?) Lawrence Towers B has been completely abandoned with the exception of the first floor, and I think one or two people live on the second floor.

The doors on every floor have these creepy generic room numbers next to the doors. Sometime in the early 2000’s, dorm residents could no longer put anything on the front of their doors for the fear of paint being ripped off. Looks like even though Lawrence Towers’ life is ticking away, they REALLY care about the paint on these doors.

What’s most creepy is that as you traverse the hallways, remembering that no more than 2 years ago behind each of these doors you would find a lively couple of freshman (or seniors)…

Walking past all of these doors now, you can see light bouncing out from under each of the doors. Usually a sign of a student too lazy to throw a carpet down or hanging out with the blinds open, it becomes apparent after the first few doors that you’re the only one on the floor. And the floor above you, and above you and so on.

It’s doubtful that Matt Miller thought back in 2003 that his work of art would be torn to bits in less than a decade.

Lousy art kids. Why can’t you learn to APPRECIATE sinks?

So, what’s for dinner?

Bathroom with fully operational toilets, sinks and showers. Soap was still full.

Did we mention each floor is still heated? There’s also lighting on each floor hooked up to sensors so every hallway appears pitch dark until you get near it.

Going up?

Saw this upon leaving the eighth floor. Let this be a lesson, put warnings on BOTH doors.

Regardless, no one go on the 8th floor. They keep things there, or something. We didn’t see anything, it was just another floor. No more fancy furniture like they used to have in the old days. The 8th floor used to have the nicest furniture and all the trimmings out of every floor in Towers. Now it has been reduced to being “just another floor“.

Creepy as it may be that 7 floors of a building are standing tall over Edinboro, completely accessible, I think it’s obvious that walking through the building brings quite a feeling of.. I don’t know..

Day 2 tie: part1-

The woods

Regardless, we’ve all (or know someone who has) been to the woods to go get intoxicated in some form or another. But the woods isn’t all FUN AND GAMES, folks. A lot of horrendously creepy stuff has happened there. I mean, look, BALANCE BEAMS:

Everyone loves balance beams! I’d say they are one of America’s favorite past-times. What kind of a fucking demon savagely tears out something from the woods that is as American as apple pie?? Probably one that hates sunsets

Enjoy it while you can. For the days are numbered that you will still even be lucky enough to gaze at the sunset. The pile of unknown rubble and debris is said to be exponentially growing larger and larger, so it’s completely reasonable to think that one day you will never be able to see the sun again because of it.

Day 2 tie: part two-

The Church off 6N

Just north of Edinboro stands a broken down and beaten up church being devoured by nature.

Yeah, so?

Wait, maybe you didn’t read that. There’s a creepy abandoned church deteriorating in the woods less than 10 minutes from Edinboro.

This chapel has definitely has seen some better days.

Inside  of the church, possibly the creepiest part about the place, is that there are dozens of pamphlets about different religions. Check it out sometime, but be respectful.

We’d give you directions to the church, but the last thing YourBoro needs is to be blamed for a fire to another historic landmark…

Fry Road

Home to a Buffalo Farm and some gardens or something – what harm could Fry Road really do?

Let’s contemplate that while taking another look at Google’s street view, shall we?

Nothing out of place here. Just a Melonhead, Belial from Basketcase, and an internet meme from 2005…

Honestly, though, there are some pretty scary things about Fry Road.

• Up until recently, it was mostly unpaved, with probably hundreds of gigantic potholes. It was a death trap for anyone NOT in a truck, basically.
• There is a creepy church camp located on the Edinboro-side of the road (make a right if you’re coming from I-79). It’s creepy because it looks like something out of Jonestown.
• Go down past Wooden Nickel for a few miles and you’ll come to Zessinger Road. Turn right and you’ll find TERROR in all shapes and sizes:

Weeeeeeeeee! Oh yeah, it’s ALL fun and games and rollercoasters until you hit THE SWAMP.

Okay, you can’t really see from this photo, but if you walk up this hill here, you’ll come to a big open swamp area.

We’re not saying we found a skeleton there, but…OKAY yes we found a skeleton there. A skeleton that was probably a result from somebody pissing off the people who live here:

Sorry for the blurriness. We were speeding away from this TORTURE CHAMBER. This, ladies and gentlemen, is a shotgun house. Not in the traditional sense, but in the sense that chances are there is someone sitting behind that front door with a loaded shotgun.

You can’t tell from our awesome photography, but the front yard is loaded with about a decade’s worth of various toys, equipment and flat-out garbage. Various sections of the house are caved in and collapsed, and several large “NO TRESPASSING” signs litter the trees surrounding it.

All the tell-tale signs of an abandonment, right? WRONG. There are always numerous lights on inside, and usually a television too.

Our advice? Stay far, far away from Fry Road.
